Practicing Mindfulness & Gratitude Through the Wintertime

While the winter months are meant to be a time of celebration and relaxation, for many people they also generate pressure and strain. This wellness session will touch on some of the common stressors that can emerge during this time, including changes to established habits and routines, social and family challenges, as well as increased feelings of grief, loneliness and sadness.
The emphasis of the session will be on two research-based strategies to improve wellbeing: mindfulness and gratitude, both of which have been shown to increase physical and emotional health. Participants will be encouraged to develop habits that can be practiced throughout the winter season in order to increase their resilience, connect meaningfully with others and experience more moments of joy and peace.

During this 1-hour session participants will:
- Reflect on what they typically enjoy and/or find difficult about the winter months
- Review some of the common sources of stress during this period
- Understand the effect of mindfulness on physical and emotional wellbeing
- Learn about the positive impacts of expressing gratitude
- Gain strategies to incorporate mindfulness and gratitude practices into their winter routines

Facilitator: Ronaye Coulson, Homewood Health
Ronaye holds a Master of Science degree in Counselling Psychology, in addition to a BSc in both Psychology and Biological Sciences, from the University of Calgary. During this time, Ronaye conducted research in the field of resilience for over six years and continues to share this knowledge and philosophy through webinar and workshop facilitation, public speaking, and in working as a therapist for over 15 years. Her passion is people, and how connection, meaning, and working with our innate capacities helps us grow and thrive with more joy and ease in our lives.
